Watch first: on this week's Training Thursday, Jordan Bateman and Kerry Vital sit down with lawyer and trainer Paul Pelletier to talk about where jobsite banter ends and bullying begins, and what WorkSafeBC expects from employers, forepersons and workers when it does.
Picture a Tuesday morning on a framing crew. One apprentice is the butt of every joke. It started as ribbing. Now he eats lunch in his truck, flinches when the foreman walks by, and is one bad day from quitting or getting hurt because his head isn't in the work. Nobody on that crew set out to break the law. But under BC's Workers Compensation Act and its health and safety rules, somebody already has a problem.
That is the gap this course closes. Respect on Site: Legal Compliance Training for Bullying & Harassment is a four-hour live online session built for BC construction. It meets the province's required onboarding and refresher standards for construction workplaces, which means it is not just good practice. It is the training your company is supposed to have.
Paul Pelletier teaches it. He holds a law degree and carries the CAPS and PMP designations, and he has spent years working with construction employers on exactly this. He does not lecture about theory. He walks through what counts as bullying and harassment and what does not, how to spot toxic behaviour before it spreads across a crew, what the law says each person on site must do, and what your own company's anti-bullying policy means in practice.
Four things come out of the morning:
