B.C. Needs a Strong Forest Industry

B.C. Needs a Strong Forest Industry

Under David Eby and the NDP, B.C.'s timber harvest has been cut in half.

Forestry built this province. For generations it kept towns working, from Crofton on Vancouver Island to Fort St. John in the northeast. Now those mills are closing. Canfor shut its Fort St. John sawmill at the end of 2024, citing high costs, red tape and a constant struggle to get enough wood. A year later, Domtar closed the Crofton pulp mill after nearly 70 years, for much the same reason.

None of that happened by accident. Layer after layer of NDP rules, permits and policy uncertainty has driven up the cost of getting B.C. wood from the forest to the mill to market. And the people paying for it live in the towns that depend on forestry the most.

When a mill closes, it isn't just the jobs that go. It's the coffee shop, the hockey team and the tax base that kept the whole town going.

On October 24, vote for a government that will get B.C. building again.
