ICBA NEWS: New Insurance Head Hired

The Independent Contractors and Businesses Association (ICBA) is pleased to announce the appointment of Mark Spence as ICBA’s new Senior Vice President – Group Health and Retirement Benefits. In this portfolio, Mark will lead ICBA Benefits, the association’s wholly-owned group benefits business.

Mark has spent the past six years with GroupHEALTH Benefit Solutions in Surrey, advancing from  Manager, New Business Development; then Director, Business Development; and finally VP – Business Development. Under his leadership, GroupHEALTH substantially grew its group premium business.

He has a demonstrated record of building and executing business plans, growing revenue, creating customer loyalty, and leading successful teams.

Safe Work = Trip to Las Vegas

Congratulations to Darcy Stoffregen of Langley’s TAG Construction on winning the 2019 ICBA Safety Merits contest!

Darcy’s name was drawn from more than a thousand safe workers submitted by ICBA member companies in December, and Darcy has won a weekend in Las Vegas (or $1,500 travel equivalent).

Thanks to all the companies who entered workers, and congratulations again Darcy!

Understanding how Provincial Sales Tax works for your construction business can be challenging, but we are! Our Get the PST Right! PST Issues for the Construction Industry breakfast will help home builders, renovators and trade contractors understand how PST applies to their business. You’ll also learn about who pays PST and how to pay it, as well as:

  • When to pay PST on your goods and supplies
  • How PST applies to goods for resale vs. those you install
  • How PST applies to goods used to fulfill a contract outside B.C.
  • When you need to be registered to collect PST
  • When to charge your customers PST
  • How PST applies to goods bought outside B.C.
  • When you may be eligible for a PST refund and how to apply
