Building Alberta’s Future: ICBA Alberta’s Recommendations for Budget 2025

ICBA Alberta has submitted key recommendations for Alberta’s 2025 provincial budget. Amid global economic uncertainty, Alberta stands out for its robust performance, with expected 2.5% GDP growth and strong housing starts. To sustain this momentum, ICBA highlights the following priorities:

  1. Balanced Budgets and Competitive Taxes: Alberta must maintain balanced operating budgets and retain its competitive personal and business tax rates to attract investment and skilled workers.
  2. Fair Infrastructure Procurement: Avoid restrictive policies like Community Benefits Agreements, which increase taxpayer costs and exclude 85% of contractors from public projects. Open, competitive tendering ensures maximum value for every dollar spent.
  3. Skilled Trades Workforce: Address the skilled labor deficit by expanding apprenticeship seats, promoting trades careers in schools, and working with the federal government to prioritize skilled immigrants.
  4. Housing Affordability: Streamline regulatory processes for residential development to combat Alberta’s housing affordability crisis.

As Alberta leads the nation in economic growth, ICBA urges the government to champion policies that foster opportunity and maintain Alberta’s competitive edge. By prioritizing fair competition, workforce development, and responsible resource management, Alberta can continue building a prosperous future.
